Palawan is one of the most popular vacation spots in the Philippines. It is home to many pristine beaches and unexplored islands in the country. If you are seeking sea adventure and you want to experience the beauty of nature, Siete Pecados in Coron, Palawan is the perfect place to be.

Siete Pecados, or Seven Sins in Spanish, is so named because legend has it that seven sisters who disobeyed their mother went swimming into the sea against their mother’s wishes. No one made it back to the shore and they all consequently drowned and died. Later, seven islands sprouted in the middle of the sea, and the most distant and largest island is believed to be the eldest daughter.

The seven islands are located in Northern Palawan, near Maquinit Hot Springs in Coron – one of the four big islands of Calamianes Archipelago. Siete Pecados is a group of seven islands clustered together just a few minutes away from the town proper. And with its breathtaking underwater splendor and rich marine life, it is one of the best snorkeling spots in the area.

There is no picture that will ever do justice to the beauty of the sea under these seven islands. Beneath the ocean lies the true treasures of Coron, and the beauty underwater is said to be one of the most stunning in the world. With the green and clear water, the some-30-feet-deep bottom of the sea is just about visible above the sea surface. There are many fish of different sizes, colors and species. There are plenty of corals in good condition and reefs are pulsing with sea life.

These seven islets and their coral reefs are protected, and fishing is prohibited in the area. Boats are also not allowed to drop anchor to avoid damaging the reefs. To hold the boat in place, boatmen make use of anchored buoys used to mark snorkeling areas and tie their boats to the floats. Ropes thrown around the boats are also provided for amateur and newbie divers to hold on to, especially when the current is strong – which it is most of the time. Some reefs are also big enough for boats’ undersides to run over them. Hence, boats are not allowed to pass some areas around the islets. And because it’s a guarded marine park, a small entrance fee is also collected from the pier.

From the harbor, the park is 6 to 10 minutes distant and motorboats may be hired out for a whole day. Snorkeling equipment may also be rented but life vests are provided free of charge. And although some boatmen have bread for the fish, it’s best to bring some with you as well. Also, you would want to bring an underwater camera, to capture the view underneath.

Experience the natural wonders of the sea at Siete Pecados now. It’s a vacation perfect for families and kids, and it’s a place you surely won’t regret visiting and one you’d definitely want to come back to over and over again.
